He also gave some advices for all students going to study abroad, and expressed his thoughts to all the Cham in America, who he misses dearly. Before we began our interview, Amb. Nan Sy took a moment to send "salam" to all the Cham people. Then, he expressed his gratefulness to BangsaCham Radio, who has informed him about the remaining students in Libya. The ambassador's first step in his effort to bring home the students was that he wrote a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Cambodia to inform them of the student's situation. He then contacted the embassy nearest to Libya, which is Tunisia and then he finally contacted the embassy in Vietnam to ask them to help bring the rest of the students home. He found a Cham village named Huixin and met with the locals there. Although each side felt happy and surprised about one another they also encountered obstacles when it came to communicating with one another. "It was very difficult to understand the Cham dialect spoken by the locals," said Yousoh. Furthermore, they couldn't communicate through written langauge because Yousoh couldn't read/write Chinese and the locals couldn't read/write English. Fortunately, Yousoh met a friend who was from that area and had studied in Malaysia, so he was able to communicate to Yousoh in Malayu and acted as a tour guide for Yousoh. Before ending the conversation with BangsaCham Radio, Yousoh sends a message to encouraged all Cham to go out there and visit all the Cham in the world wherever they are. They came from different villages throughout Phan Rang, which included palai Mranh, palai Chak and palai Ni; these villages are all adopters of Balamon- a form of Hinduism. One of the woman who shared her thoughts with BangsaCham Radio said that she had heard of Islam for quite some time and that when she left to go to palai Balap to take her Shahadah her villagers were acceptance of her going. In the history of Cham Phan Rang,we find this quite rare and as a matter of fact this could be the first time that this is happening. In the history of Phan Rang, the Cham people are very protective of their culture and custom and tends to marry people within their village; therefore, for someone to leave the comfort of their village's custom to accept something quite different is rare. Fish farming is one of the major source of income for millions of people living in the country side in Cambodia, so why would anyone leave the comfort of their h omeland and their family and relative to go seek the same work in a foreign country. One reason is that the money value in Malaysia is many times greater than in Cambodia. Therefere, the same kind of work in Malaysia brings in more income than it would bring in Cambodia. Listen to Muslim Sulaiman as he interviews one of the Cham people who does fish farming in Pahang Province, Malaysia. ________________________ [06.12.2011] Donation Recipient- Oleh Islamiyah Mohamad Siem Reap, Cambodia- Islamiyah Mohamad and Yasmin Thanh travelled to Siem Reap, Cambodia, a tourist city where some Cham villages are located. Five teams took to the field but only one team truely controlled it; it was team Olympia. To be exact, it was the younger generation of the Olympia team. Team Santa Ana came second and team older generation of Olympia took third place. It is not quite sure what the reward was for winning, but the event was a great reward for the Cham community. People came from the around the area and filled the parking lot. There were a few mishaps that took place among the players. One player was assisted off the field due to an injurity to his leg while another one crawled out on his own as others ignored his injury. I gotta say, team Santa Ana was quite furious and came as close as punching another player on the opponent team. Overall, the tournament was great to watch, especially on a rare sunny day in Seattle, WA. Ranking: (1st) Olympia Youth; (2nd) Santa Ana Youth; (3rd) Olympia older generation; (4th) Seattle Youth; and (5 and last place) Seattle older generation ________________________________ [07.11.2011] Chicken Production- Oleh Muslim Sulaiman Kuwantan, Malaysia- Muslim Amir came from Cambodia looking for work in Malaysia and found himself earning money by butchering and packaging chicken for a company.
